The layout, the neighborhood, getting around, and more…

The Layout:

Relax and rejuvenate in this private hilltop retreat, in a very quiet and safe family neighborhood (we don’t lock our cars at night). Your own little private hideaway on a hilltop with amazing views, this private efficiency apartment is attached to our house but is completely stand-alone with its own entrance.
On a 1-acre property atop of a hill, your efficiency apartment has amazing views of East San Diego county, and is so quiet, all you’ll hear is crickets at night and bird calls in the morning.

More about the unit:

The bedroom features a queen-sized bed with a brand-new spring-coil mattress and high-quality bedding, a large closet, two nightstands, and two small cabinets to store your stuff. There is also a bathroom and small kitchen.

What about amenities?

You’ll feel like you’re at home with heating, AC, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and a large, fully equipped kitchenette – it’s large and features a refrigerator, 2-burner electric stove, coffee maker, coffee bean grinder, cutlery, pans, pots, wine opener, can opener, salt/pepper, and paper towels. And we’ve pre-stocked the fridge with bottled water and fresh Starbucks coffee beans.
The sparkling bathroom is also stocked with towels, soap, shampoo & conditioner, has plenty of cabinets and storage, and has a Jacuzzi bathtub!

What guests can access

You are assigned one Guest Parking Space, and for more vehicles, we have ample street parking. We also provide a washer/dryer on the premises.

Your interaction with guests

We live next-door and are almost always home. We are just a text message away if you need anything at all. Our family is very friendly and enjoys interacting with our guests.

About the neighborhood

Our neighborhood is a quiet, single-family residential area. It is super safe; in fact, we don’t even lock our cars at night. Located in the city of El Cajon, part of San Diego’s East County, the property is generally sunnier than the coast while still enjoying easy access to beaches, mountains & desert.

How to get around

Driving: Easy access to everywhere from I-8 or I-52 (both are 4 minutes away). You are allotted one guest parking space with plenty of street parking.

We are 5 min from both the 8 and 52 freeways. We are with 30 min of the beaches (including La Jolla Shores and cove), the base of North Island, and almost anywhere in San Diego. 15 min to Kearney Mesa, the base in Miramar, etc.

Transit: There is a bus stop within 10 minutes’ walk. Keep in mind that San Diego’s public transportation system is terrible. You are far better off renting a car at the local Enterprise car rental place for approx. $25/day.

Less than 6 minutes away are the shopping malls, restaurants, and grocery stores in Santee. Food options are extremely diverse, including BBQ, Mexican, burgers, global cuisines from Japanese to Lebanese, and major chains such as Denny’s, Mimi’s, Olive Garden, Starbucks.

It is just 30 minutes away from the beaches at La Jolla Cove, La Jolla Shores, Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach, and Mission Bay.

Close up of a restored WWII Steerman flying by on the way to Gillespie Field. You see many of them from the patio or the window of the dining room. Thanks for John for his telephoto lens and never-ending patience.

I am from Bremerton, WA and am here on TDY. I heard about the place from a co-worker. I heard I can use my per diem, have a really nice place to stay, and use my reward points to fly my sweetie back and forth between WA and San Diego. Read more…

When I first I heard “El Cajon”, I thought it was too far, but I discovered that it is really only a 20-min drive. That is so worth it to be away from Downtown/Gaslamp and all the bums, crack dealers, and constant police sirens. Read more…
